YouTube has removed this short movie fragment I used as an illustration below, so here is a direct link to Eric Cartman’s opinion about Family Guy series (3,8 MB). I suggest you to use VLC software to watch it. It works with almost each operating system and its free.
An interesting, very non-typical and at the same time creative comment of Matt Groening about plagiarism. See a short fragment of a cartoon movie below. For all of you not in the subject, this is a part of The Simpsons about its “competition” Family Guy and American Dad series.
In passing. Old ancient Roman poet Martialis was the first one who used the term plagiarism when describing actions done by poet Fidentinus who appropriated Martialis’ works. There is also another interesting fact to mention. In old Japan many craftsmen used signatures of famous masters to sign its works as a respect. It causes a lot of troubles for archeologists and other experts to establish real authorship of the work. For instance many people who collect Japanese swords (nihonto) have such problems. Off topic. Very important criticism about Family Guy, presented by Eric Theodore Cartman from South Park.
Don’t you ever, EVER compare me to Family Guy, you hear me Kyle? Compare me to Family Guy again and so help me, I will kill you where you stand! Do you have any idea what it’s like? Everywhere I go: “Hey Cartman you must like Family Guy, right?” “Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of Family Guy, Cartman!” I am nothing like Family Guy! When I make jokes they are inherent to a story! Deep situational and emotional jokes based on what is relevant and has a point, not just one random interchangeable joke after another!
This fragment is taken from “Cartoon Wars Part I” which is episode 1003 of South Park. It was aired on April 5, 2006.
